My outdoor unit went under water in a storm. Can it be repaired?

Sometimes, but be careful with it. Salt water gets into the compressor terminals, the contactor and the control board, and the corrosion keeps working long after the water is gone. Do not run it until it has been checked, because that is how a wet system turns into a dead compressor. We open it up, see what is salvageable and tell you plainly whether a repair will hold.

The breaker trips every time the AC starts. What is going on?

Do not keep resetting it. A breaker that trips on startup is usually a failing capacitor, a compressor pulling too much current, a shorted wire or a worn out breaker. Those need a meter to tell apart, and repeated resets are hard on the compressor. Leave it off and call us.

Why does my AC smell musty when it turns on?

That smell is almost always growth on the indoor coil or standing water in the drain pan, which is easy to get in this humidity. It clears up once the coil is cleaned and the drain is flowing the way it should. If the smell is sharp rather than musty, or smells like something burning, shut the system off and call us instead.

My thermostat screen is blank. Does that mean the thermostat is bad?

Not usually. A blank thermostat is often a tripped float switch from a clogged drain line, a blown low voltage fuse on the control board, or dead batteries. Check the batteries, then look for water around the air handler. If the drain pan is full, the system did exactly what it was supposed to do and shut itself off before water reached your ceiling.
