Why does my house feel clammy even when the thermostat says it is cool enough?

That is a humidity problem rather than a temperature problem. An oversized system cools fast and shuts off before it can wring the water out of the air, and running the fan on ON instead of AUTO can put moisture right back into the house. We look at the fan setting, the airflow and how long the system actually runs, then tell you what is causing it.

What is a float switch and why did it shut my system off?

It is a small safety switch on the condensate drain that stops the system when water backs up, which is what keeps a clogged drain from coming through your ceiling. If it shut you down, it did its job. Clearing the drain line properly gets you running again, and that is part of a normal maintenance visit.

My AC runs almost all day in August. Is something wrong?

Not necessarily. On a ninety five degree afternoon in this humidity, a correctly sized system can run most of the day and still keep up, and that is normal. What is not normal is running constantly and still falling behind, or running all day while the house feels damp. That is when we look at the airflow, the charge and the ducts.

Do air purifiers or UV lights actually help here?

They can help with what grows on a wet indoor coil, which is a real problem in this climate, but they are not a substitute for cleaning that coil and keeping the drain clear. If you already have one, we will tell you whether it is doing anything. If you are thinking about one, we will tell you honestly whether your system needs it.
