My AC keeps up all morning and falls behind in the afternoon.

That usually means the system is near its limit and something is holding it back: a dirty coil, low refrigerant, a filter nobody has changed, or ductwork losing cooling in a hot attic. A healthy system should hold your setting through the worst part of the day. We measure the temperature split and the airflow to find out which one it is.

There is water on the floor around my air handler.

Shut the system off first so it stops making more water. Usually it is a clogged condensate drain backing up into the pan. Sometimes the pan itself has rusted through, and sometimes a duct is sweating because the insulation failed in a hot garage or attic. We clear the drain, check the pan, and look at what made it clog, because a drain that clogs once will clog again.

Something has been chewing the wires outside. Does that cause problems?

It does. Rodents and lizards get into the outdoor unit and the low voltage wiring, and a chewed wire can kill the thermostat signal, short the control board or stop the compressor from starting. If the system quit with no warning and you have seen critters around the pad, say so when you call and we will look there first.

My system runs but barely any air comes out of the vents.

That is an airflow problem, not a cooling problem. The usual causes are a filter that is past due, a blower wheel caked with dust, a crushed or disconnected flex duct in the attic, or a coil that has iced up from one of those. Change the filter first. If that does not fix it, leave the system off so a frozen coil can thaw, and we will find the restriction.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air.
