Why is my water pressure surging or cycling on and off?

On a well system that is usually the pressure tank or the pressure switch rather than your household plumbing. The tank holds a cushion of air, and once it loses that cushion the pump kicks on and off constantly, which you feel in the shower and which wears the pump out early. We check the plumbing side first, and if it points at the tank or the switch we tell you that rather than guessing.

Why does my water stain the sinks and toilets orange?

That is iron, and it is common on wells around here. It stains fixtures, discolors laundry and builds up inside aerators and valves over time. Scrubbing helps for a while, but the real fix is treatment where the water comes into the house. We can show you what the buildup is doing inside your plumbing and what treatment would actually change.

Do I need a water softener?

Maybe. If you are fighting scale on the fixtures, spots on the dishes and water heaters that wear out early, softening will help. If your real complaint is the smell or the orange staining, a softener by itself is the wrong tool for it. We would rather tell you which problem you actually have than sell you equipment that does not fix it.

I have no water after a power outage. What should I check?

On a well, no power means no pump, so start with the breaker for the pump and the pressure switch. If the breaker is on and you still have nothing, stop flipping it. If the neighbors on city water have water and you do not, the problem is on your property. We can check the plumbing and the pressure side and tell you whether you need a well contractor.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air.
