Should my outdoor unit be raised off the ground?

Is a variable-speed or two-stage system worth it in a humid home?

In damp homes near the water it often is. A single-speed system runs full blast and shuts off, sometimes before it has pulled much moisture out of the air. Two-stage and variable-speed systems run longer at lower speeds, which removes more humidity and keeps temperatures steadier. They cost more up front, so we price them side by side with a standard system and explain the difference.

Should I choose a heat pump or an AC with heat strips?

For most homes here, a heat pump makes sense. It heats far more efficiently than electric strips on the mild winter days that make up most of the season, and the strips are still there as backup for cold snaps. An AC with strips costs a little less up front but uses more power every time the heat runs. We can show you the difference in cost for your house.

What should I expect on installation day?

A straight replacement in the same location is usually done in a day. We remove the old equipment, set the new indoor and outdoor units, connect the refrigerant lines, wiring and drain, then start the system and check the charge and airflow. If ductwork changes or a new mounting location are part of the job, it can take longer, and we tell you that up front with the quote.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
