Why is my upstairs so much hotter than downstairs?

Heat rises, and upstairs rooms sit right under a hot attic, so they pick up more heat than the rest of the house. On top of that, the longest duct runs usually go upstairs, and many two-story homes have only one return up there or none at all. Better attic insulation, sealing the ducts, adding a return and balancing the airflow often close the gap. We check those before recommending a bigger system or zoning.

Does my HOA have a say in my AC equipment?

Sometimes. Many Brandon neighborhoods have HOA rules about where outdoor equipment can sit, how visible it can be from the street and whether it needs screening. A straight replacement in the same spot usually is not an issue, but moving the unit or adding a second one may need approval. Check your HOA guidelines before planning a change. We can work around what they allow.

Is it a problem that my air handler is in the garage?

No, it is a common setup in Florida homes. Garages get hot and dusty, though, so the air handler needs a well-sealed cabinet, a return that does not pull air from the garage itself, and a drain that is easy to check. Garage air can carry exhaust and fumes, so any gaps in the return should be sealed. We look at those points on every visit to a garage unit.

Why do some rooms get barely any air?

Common reasons are a supply vent or damper that was closed and forgotten, a flex duct that has been crushed or kinked in the attic, a duct that came loose, or a room at the end of a long run with an undersized duct. Closing vents in other rooms usually does not help and can strain the system. We trace the duct to that room and find where the air is going.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important. Give ‘em a call!
