What refrigerant will a new system use?

Not automatically. If an older system runs well, holds its charge and your bills are reasonable, keep using it and plan for the replacement instead of rushing it. The reason to replace early is when repairs are adding up, parts are getting hard to find, or you would rather choose the timing than have it chosen for you in August.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air.
