Indoors, pet hair clogs filters and builds up on the blower much faster. A short fence around the unit, set back far enough for airflow, and more frequent filter changes solve most of it.

How long does a maintenance visit take?

Plan on about an hour for a typical single system, sometimes longer if the coils need a deep cleaning or we find something that needs a closer look. We need access to the indoor unit, the thermostat and the outdoor unit, so someone should be home. A visit that takes fifteen minutes is usually a quick look, not a real tune-up.

Should my refrigerant be topped off every year?

No. Refrigerant runs in a sealed loop and does not get used up the way gas in a car does. If a system needs refrigerant, it has a leak somewhere, and adding more every year only delays the repair while the leak gets worse. If someone offers to top you off at every visit, ask where the leak is and what it would take to fix it.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
