How do I know if my filter is the wrong size?

Pull it out and look at the slot. If there are gaps around the edges, or the filter is bent to make it fit, air is going around it instead of through it, and that dust ends up on the coil and the blower. The size printed on the old filter is not always right, so measure the slot itself. We check the fit on every visit and can tell you the exact size you need.

Why are there dark dust streaks around my ceiling vents?

Those streaks usually mean dirty air is leaking somewhere, either around a filter that does not seal, through gaps in the return, or at duct connections in the attic. Sometimes it is moisture or candle soot collecting where air hits the ceiling. Sealing the leaks and fixing the filter fit usually clears it up. We find where the dirty air is coming from.

Is it okay to turn the AC off when I leave for a few days?

It is better to turn it up than off. Setting the thermostat to around 80 to 85 degrees while you are gone keeps humidity from building up inside, which protects floors, furniture and the system itself from moisture problems. Shutting it off completely in a Florida summer can leave you coming home to a damp, musty house.

Does a tune-up actually lower my power bill?

It can. A dirty outdoor coil or a clogged filter forces the system to run longer to move the same amount of heat, and an incorrect refrigerant charge cuts efficiency too. Cleaning the coils, fixing the airflow and checking the charge brings a system back closer to its rated efficiency. How much you save depends on how neglected it was.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
