What is emergency heat on my thermostat, and when should I use it?

Emergency heat shuts the heat pump off and runs only the electric heat strips in the air handler. It is there for when the outdoor unit has failed, not for cold mornings, because running on strips alone can easily double what heating costs you. If you find yourself needing it, something is wrong with the heat pump, and that is the time to call us.

Why is one room always hotter or colder than the rest of the house?

Usually it is the duct run to that room. It may be undersized, too long, kinked in the attic or leaking before the air ever arrives. Rooms over a garage or with a lot of west facing glass also fight the sun. We measure the airflow at the vents and look at the run in the attic before suggesting anything, because the fix can be as simple as a damper adjustment.

Is a ductless mini split a good choice for an addition or a Florida room?

Often it is the best choice. Tying a new room into an existing duct system can starve the rest of the house, and an enclosed porch with a lot of glass needs its own control anyway. A ductless unit cools and heats that one space on its own schedule without touching the main system. We look at the room and tell you honestly whether ductless or a duct extension makes more sense.

Do we really need to worry about heat in Homosassa?

More than people expect. We get a run of cold nights most winters up here, and a heat pump that has not run since March is the one that fails on the first cold morning. Switch it over to heat once in the fall, before you need it, and you will know whether it works while there is still time to get it looked at.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air.
