Is a packaged unit or a split system better for my house?

A split system, with an outdoor unit and an indoor air handler, is the usual choice when there is room inside for the air handler. A packaged unit puts everything in one cabinet outside, which works well for homes without an attic or a good indoor spot, and some slab homes with ducts in the floor or ceiling. We look at where your ducts run and where equipment can go before recommending either.

What does a matched system rating mean?

Indoor and outdoor equipment is tested together, and each approved combination gets a certified efficiency rating through AHRI. If the pieces in a quote are not a rated match, the system may not reach the efficiency on the label and could have warranty problems. Ask for the AHRI reference number on any quote. We include it with ours so you can look it up yourself.

Can a new system be installed in the winter?

Yes. Winter and early spring are often the easiest time to replace a system, with more flexible scheduling and no rush. Refrigerant charge is harder to fine tune in cold weather, so it is set carefully by weight and checked again once the weather warms up. That spring check is a good habit for any new installation.

How do I protect a new outdoor unit from copper theft?

It mostly happens at vacant homes, rentals between tenants and homes under construction. A locking cage around the unit, locking caps on the refrigerant ports, good lighting and a camera all make it a less tempting target. If your home will sit empty for a while, it is worth considering. We can talk through options when we install the system.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important. Give ‘em a call!
