Can an old electrical panel cause AC problems?

It can. Older panels and wiring were often sized for a house with no central air, and a modern system pulls a lot of current when the compressor starts. Loose or undersized connections heat up, breakers trip, and parts like the contactor and capacitor take extra stress. If your system keeps tripping or dimming the lights, we check the circuit and the panel along with the equipment.

Why does my attic air handler keep shutting off on hot afternoons?

Attics in older homes can bake well past a hundred degrees, and an air handler up there may shut itself off when its motor overheats or when a safety switch trips. A dirty filter or blocked return makes it worse by cutting the airflow that keeps everything cool. We check the blower, the airflow and the drain safety switch, and look at whether the attic itself needs better ventilation.

I found a disconnected duct in my attic. Is that a big deal?

Yes. A duct that has fallen off is dumping cooled air straight into the attic, so one or more rooms get little or no air and the system runs longer for the rest. It can also pull hot, dusty attic air into the house. Reattaching and sealing it properly, with mastic rather than tape, is usually a quick fix. We check the other connections while we are up there, since they tend to fail together.

How do I know if my compressor is failing?

Common signs are a unit that hums or struggles before starting, breakers that trip when it kicks on, warm air from the vents while the outdoor fan runs, and louder noises from the outdoor unit. Some of those are cheaper problems that look similar, like a bad capacitor or contactor. We test the electrical parts and the compressor itself before telling you it is the compressor.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
