Do I need approval to replace equipment on a historic home?

Sometimes. If your home is in one of St. Petersburg’s local historic districts, changes to the outside of the house can require city review, and moving equipment to where it is visible from the street may come up. A straight replacement in the same spot is usually simpler. It is worth checking with the city before you plan a new location, and we can work around those limits.

Why is the new system smaller than my old one?

Because the old one was probably too big. Many older homes were fitted with oversized equipment that cooled fast and shut off before it pulled the humidity out. If you have added insulation, new windows or sealed ducts since then, the house needs even less. A load calculation tells us the real number, and a correctly sized system usually feels drier and runs more evenly.

Can I replace all my window units with central air?

Yes, but the house needs a way to move the air. If there is room in the attic for ductwork, a central system can serve every room. If not, a multi-zone ductless system with a small indoor head in each main room can do the job without ducts. We look at the attic, the layout and the budget, then price both options so you can compare.

Should I add insulation before I buy a new system?

If your attic is thin on insulation, it is worth doing first or at the same time. Better insulation lowers the load on the house, which can mean a smaller, less expensive system that runs less every month. Buying the system first and insulating later often leaves you with equipment that is now too big. We can tell you where your attic stands when we measure for the quote.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
