How do I keep leaves and palm debris out of my outdoor unit?

Keep plants and trees trimmed back at least a couple of feet from the unit, and clear the top grille after storms and heavy leaf drop. Never cover the unit while it might run. Debris packed against the coil chokes the airflow and makes the compressor work harder, so a quick check after windy weather goes a long way. We clean out what gets inside during a maintenance visit.

Should I have my ducts sealed?

In many older homes, yes. Original ductwork often leaks at every joint, and tape that was used decades ago has usually dried out and let go. Sealing the joints with mastic keeps the cooled air going where it should and keeps attic dust out of the house. It also lets the system run less. We can check your ducts for obvious leaks during a maintenance visit and tell you whether a full sealing job is worth it.

What thermostat setting makes sense in a St. Pete summer?

Around 78 degrees while you are home is a good balance for most people, a little higher while you are out, and cooler at night if that is when you want it. Big swings of ten degrees or more make the system run long and hard to catch up, and they let humidity creep in. A steady setting with modest changes is easier on the equipment and your bill.

Does a ductless mini split need maintenance?

Yes, and owners often forget it. The filters in each indoor head should be rinsed about once a month during heavy use, and the indoor coil, the blower wheel and the drain need a professional cleaning periodically to keep mold and buildup from taking over. The outdoor unit needs the same attention as any other. We service mini splits along with central systems.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
