Why is my older home so hard to keep cool?

Most older St. Petersburg homes were built with little or no attic insulation, single-pane windows and ductwork added decades after the house went up. The air conditioner ends up cooling the attic and the outdoors along with the rooms. Sealing the ducts and adding insulation often helps more than a bigger system would. We check those first so you do not pay for capacity you do not need.

Can I cool my Florida room without changing the main system?

Usually, yes. Enclosed porches and Florida rooms often have lots of glass, little insulation and no duct run, so tapping them into the main system just steals air from the rest of the house. A small ductless unit sized for that room alone is often the cleaner fix. We look at the room, the windows and the power available before recommending one.

Does living near the bay cause salt damage like the beach does?

It can, though usually more slowly. Homes right on Tampa Bay or a canal still get salt and moisture in the air, and the outdoor coil and electrical connections show it over time. A few blocks inland the effect drops off quickly. We look at the coil on every visit and tell you whether your location calls for extra rinsing or coil protection.

Should I keep my window units or switch to central air?

It depends on the house. Window units are cheap to replace, but they are loud, they do little for humidity and they leave some rooms hot. Central air or a multi-zone ductless system costs more up front and cools the whole home more evenly. We can walk through both with real numbers for your house, including what it would take to add ducts.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air. I opened up a can of worms and luckily they know what they are doing. I had a solution in minutes. It’s a pricey procedure but good air quality and a efficient electric bill is very important.
