Can I clean my own outdoor coil?

You can rinse it, and that helps. Turn the power off at the disconnect first, then spray gently from the inside out if you can, or straight through from outside with a garden hose, never a pressure washer, which folds the fins flat. Leave the coil chemicals and anything inside the panels to us. A gentle rinse in spring after the pollen settles does a lot of good.

Does my thermostat need maintenance?

A little. Change the batteries once a year if it uses them, keep it out of direct sun and away from lamps or a TV, and make sure the settings are still right after a power outage. If the temperature it shows does not match what the house feels like, it may need recalibrating or replacing, and we check that during a visit.

How do I know if my capacitor is getting weak?

You usually do not, until it fails, which is the problem. A weak capacitor can let the system limp along, starting slower and running hotter, for a while before it quits in the middle of a heat wave. We test it against its rating during every maintenance visit, and if it is drifting, we tell you so you can replace an inexpensive part on your schedule.

How often should the blower wheel be cleaned?

Not every visit, but it should be checked every time. Dust builds up on the blades and slowly cuts the airflow, which makes the system work harder and can freeze the coil. In a clean house with good filters it may go years, but pets, a dusty attic or skipped filter changes can load it up in a season or two. We look, and we tell you when it is due.

I got to see everything before it was replaced in my attic. They were very thorough in explaining to me what needed to be done and why my house wasn’t holding cool air.
